Whipped Body Butter Blend Ingredients

This is a list of the ingredients used in Whipped Body Butter Blend™ the benefits they have on skin and why I specifically picked each one. They are not by accident as my quest to find the perfect lotion potion involved many different trials and ingredients.*

Organic Lotion BaseOrganic Lotion Base

I use an organic lotion base that is created with minimal preservatives and some of the same oils and butters. I have tried dozens of lotion bases, this is my favorite. I could opt to make my own, but when this much water is involved (as it is in lotion) I’d prefer to leave it to the chemists to choose how to preserve it.  The rest of my ingredients are pure oils and butters that have long shelf lives.
Ingredients:
Purified water, Organic Coconut Oil, Organic Sunflower Seed Oil, Cetearyl Alcohol, Xantham Gum, Apricot Kernel Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Organic Aloe Vera Leaf Juice Powder, Citric Acid, Tocopherol, Lactic Acid, Benzoic Acid, Dehydroacetic Acid

Organic Raw Cocoa Butter

Raw Organic Cocoa Butterorganic

This is my FAVORITE ingredient!!!! I love the smell, texture, color…everything. I use 100% USDA Certified Organic natural cocoa butter as over 1/4 of the body butter! This is not an easy butter to blend, but is worth all the time it takes. I have tried using less cocoa butter at times, it does NOT work…or work at least the way I like it.
Skin Benefits of Cocoa Butter:
“The fat pressed from cocoa bean pods can sooth your dry and injured skin. Cocoa butter is a high quality emollient, a skin softening and moisturizing agent.”*
-Maude Grieve A Modern Herbal
Our skin just loves cocoa butter! Along with the benefits for dry skin, cocoa butter soothes sun damaged skin or a burn. Cocoa butter, when applied topically, creates a barrier between sensitive skin and the environment and helps retain needed moisture.  In addition, some have seen a reduction in stretch marks and scars using cocoa butter, and it has often been recommended for treatment of skin conditions such as eczema and dermatitis. Cocoa butter contains cocoa mass polyphenol (CMP), a substance that inhibits the production of the immuno globulin IgE. IgE is known to aggravate symptoms of both dermatitis and eczema. Bottom line: It’s awesome.

Apricot Kernel Oil

organicApricot Kernel Oil

I use apricot oil as my base oil for many reasons, but mainly I love that it is a light oil so it absorbs quickly without leaving the skin feeling greasy. Many oils take a while to absorb or simply don’t absorb at all.

Skin Benefits of Apricot Kernel Oil:

The high Gamma Linoleic Acid (GLA) content in apricot kernel oil helps skin maintain moisture balance and can firm up skin (oh yeah!) while the vitamins A & E can help slow the signs of aging. That’s why I’m 75 and I look 17!!! Ok, not really but that would be a great sales pitch if it were true.  Since apricot oil is so light, it is non-irritating which makes it a good choice for little ones and those with minor irritations, such as razor burn or more severe irritations like eczema & psoriasis.

Coconut OilCoconut Oil

Coconut oil is my latest addition to my lotion. Since all the buzz about how wonderful coconut oil is, I thought I’d try some and it has not disappointed! Coconut oil has recently been the subject of many different health studies and people are finding it to have amazing benefits for us from head-to-toe, literally. Whether you put it on your body or in your body, this stuff is just amazing. I could spend some serious time on this one, so I will just highlight a few of my favorites here and stick to what it does for our skin.
Skin Benefits of Coconut Oil:
Coconut oil can help soothe athlete’s foot, ringworm, diaper rash, a burn and eczema. It has been used by many as a natural alternative to sunblock, and I have a friend who actually used it and it alone for sunblock on 92 degree sunny day and she was definitely “sun-kissed” but had been in the sun for three hours…I was impressed (Thanks Jenica for sharing your story with me AND for being my first official customer!)!
Coconut oil possesses proven antibacterial and antifungal properties. Not a single FDA approved drug can claim both! This super-food has been linked to help heal acne and can even be used as a deodorant since it has microbe-killing properties that eliminate body odor. Wow, huh? You see why I just had to add this in…its magic!

Unrefined Shea ButterOrgainc Raw Shea Butter

organic

The last of the butters is shea butter. Whipped™ uses unrefined African Certified Organic ivory shea butter. Tricky since it adds a definite grain to the lotion texture but I have found to be a key ingredient in binding the lotion together nicely and giving the lotion extra lasting power. Along with the rest of the ingredients I have chosen, it completely rocks for the health of our body!
Skin Benefits of Shea Butter:
Shea butter and another member of the Great Skin Protectors. Not only does our skin do daily battle with that thing that our world literally revolves around, aka The Sun, we have to deal with pollutants that we come into contact with at all times and we have absolutely no control over it short of walking around in a plastic bubble. By that point, I don’t think lotion is the answer anymore. Shea butter helps protect against free radicals and UV rays while treating irritated, bitten skin or great treatment if you get a burn. Shea is also very gentle so another goody for the wee ones.
Are you seeing a trend? Each ingredient has been chosen for its specific benefits, especially for sensitive, dry and irritated skin. If you have struggled with sensitive skin in your life, I ask you give Whipped™ Body Butter Blend a try…it might be the answer to your skin quest too!

Lavender Essential OilLavender Essential Oil

Ahh, the beautiful perfection of nature all in one plant. Lavender has been one of my favorite essential oils for quite some time. It really does relax me, and when I waft if under my little boy’s nose, he actually bats his eyes as if he is sleepy. I also try to think of those around me (like me) that are sensitive to smells and lavender is generally loved and well tolerated. Using 100% pure oil is key, too.
Overall Benefits of Lavender Essential Oil:
Lavender is such a wonderful herb and has so many benefits, especially to skin. Used to treat burns, bites, eczema, cuts, chapped lips, and dry skin lavender oil is handy to keep in the first aid kit along with the spa essentials. Speaking of spa, my favorite element to lavender is the heavenly scent! It takes me to a complexly different dimension. I add lavender oil to my bath, my sheets, my skin, you name it. I especially love to blend it with Jasmine oil. I would love to add that to the body butter but I think that would put the price of the lotion too high…maybe I might make another version that includes it as I gain more feedback from all of you. 🙂 Anyway, lavender calms, soothes and leaves a delicate trace of peacefulness that stays with you.

Grapefriut Essential OilGrapefruit Essential Oil

Last but not least of my lengthy list of fabulousness is grapefruit essential oil. With its bright, clean scent, grapefruit oil instantly makes my head feel clearer my overall well-being feel better. It isn’t just because it smells so good…grapefruit oil is a natural anti-depressant! I also like to use grapefruit essential oil as it is a natural preservative. I do not claim that it preserves anything in my lotion, but it definitely can’t hurt!
Overall Benefits of Grapefruit Essential Oil :
There have not been many scientific studies on the health benefits of grapefruit essential oil, but most of which recently has been on the mood-boosting effects it has. Depression has affected me personally which is one reason why aromatherapy is very important to me. I have long used scents, sounds and sights (i.e. a candle-lit bath with Deuter or Enya playing in the background and a lovely blend of oils and salts to melt in) as a remedy for when I feel down and it works wonderfully.
